BamaBikes FAQs
What is BamaBike?
BamaBike is a Student Affairs initiative designed to provide bicycle transportation on the University’s campus.
Why should I sign up?
If you want to get from point to point on campus in a hurry, there’s no better way to do so than on the seat of a BamaBike. Once you’ve completed the registration process, checking out a BamaBike takes no time at all. And the bike is yours for up to one week.
How much does it cost?
Signing up for the BamaBike system costs $10.00. That figure is a one-time fee which will pay for unlimited bike usage until August 2009. You will never be asked to pay anything else.
Where are the desks located?
BamaBike desks are located at Rose Towers’ Front Desk, the Student Recreation Center’s Front Desk, and the Ferguson Center’s Information Desk (on the second floor).
When can I check out a BamaBike?
All locations will be open from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM during the school week (Monday through Friday). Rose Towers will be open from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday.
How do I sign up for the program?
Click on the “Sign Up” tab located in the site navigation bar. Follow the prompts and complete the registration process by paying your membership fee with either BamaCash or your debit/credit card.
Remember to print your receipt and to print and sign the BamaBike Risk Assumption Form. You cannot check out a bike until you turn in the Risk Assumption Form. Risk Assumption forms are also available at all BamaBikes locations.
Where do I get the form?
Download the Risk Assumption Form here, or get one from any BamaBikes location.
How long do I have to return the bike?
You can keep your BamaBike for up to one week.
Where do I have to return it?
Any location during normal operating hours.
What about helmets?
Helmets are available for purchase at Outdoor Recreation. We strongly advise you to wear a helmet while riding your BamaBike. Call 348-7045 if you are interested.
How many bikes do you have? What are they like?
We currently have 36 cruiser-style bicycles with reinforced steel frames, thick tires, coaster brakes and baskets for books and groceries.
What happens if I lose the bike key?
Tell any one of our front desk workers immediately or contact our BamaBike manager at bamabikes@ua.edu.
What happens if I turn a bicycle in late?
Late check-ins will incur a fine and suspension of rental privileges.
What happens if the bicycle I’m using is damaged under my care?
When you check in the bike, our front desk staff will ask you about the condition of the bike. Please be honest. Depending upon the cause, type, and extent of damage done to the bike, you may not be held liable for repair work.
What happens if the bike is lost or stolen under my care?
You are fully responsible for the bike once you check it out and costs to replace the bike will be your responsibility.
I have a comment/suggestion/story about BamaBike I’d like to share. How do I go about doing that?
Please contact Alex Flachsbart at aflachsbart@bama.ua.edu with any comments, questions, or suggestions that you might have about the BamaBike Program. If you’ve had a good (or bad) experience with the program, we want to know it!
